If you’re slaving away all year for two weeks in a package resort, then you’re doing traveling wrong. It doesn’t matter if you’re going for an overnight stay, a week or the rest of your life, see what Airbnb has to offer.
Airbnb is cheaper than a hotel. It has all the facilities you need without an additional charge for each and every one, you can often find an apartment in the perfect location and you can find Airbnb rentals with real character.

Airbnb is great for business travel
I used to travel with work all the time and I stopped using hotels years ago. An Airbnb was always cheaper, better or just more effective for a variety of reasons. So that’s what I do now.
When I moved out to the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, Airbnb was a Godsend. It meant I could book a place for a month and then see what was out there. My ‘apartment’ was a condo in a hotel that cost $390 a month. Booking the same hotel through Expedia would have cost more than $900.
If I had a personal discount code, I could have saved even more, so before we go any further have mine. It gives you $40 off your first booking with Airbnb.
How to use my Airbnb Coupon for $40
You just have to sign up with your email on Airbnb’s site through my link and you will automatically get your discount when you book your first trip.
But that’s not the only way to save big with Airbnb. Years of experience have taught me the following:
1. Check regularly and book early
If you want a specific date, for business travel or a special weekend, then book early. Airbnb has amazing properties and budget bolt-holes, but the really special places and the really cheap ones can be booked out for months.
2. Stay longer
When I first checked the prices for a month in an apartment, I seriously thought I had crashed the site. It’s so much cheaper to stay for a month that it can even be worth booking it if you’re staying for two weeks.
You can get Airbnb discounts of up to 70% if you book the whole month and that changes the whole complexion of your trip. You might want to block book your holiday, if you can, and go for longer.
3. Don’t be scared off fancy locations
You can get really affordable Airbnbs in some of the world’s most exotic locations. So if you think the Bahamas are for the jetset, then have a look at renting a house or an apartment and you can join them.
You can rent an apartment on the Seychelles for $350 a month and you can stay all over the Caribbean and Asia for less than $500 a month. Plenty of these places can be had for less than $20 a night.
So, cast a wide net, use the pricing filter and find the holiday of your dreams. In truth, it gets addictive to see what you can find and the apartment search is part of the excitement of travelling for me.
4. Ask for a discount
It sounds simple, but it really works. Most of the time you’re dealing with private owners, the apartment prices fluctuate according to the season and other variables and it can just be sat there empty.
So, send them a private message through Airbnb, tell them you love the place but it’s a bit beyond the budget. Ask them if there’s anything they can do about the final price.
This has NEVER failed.
I have always got a discount that ranged from $50-$500 for a single month.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get, so ask for a discount with Airbnb.
